Why does my business need to be involved in social media?

Have you ever asked yourself, why does my business need to be involved in social media? If my guess is correct, you and hundreds, maybe even thousands of other business people are asking the same question. While we all know that many businesses have jumped on the social media bandwagon, there are still business owners out there asking that same question; why do I need to use twitter, facebook or other social media?

I think most of us have figured out by now that the most common way to search for a company involves the Internet. There really aren’t that many people still leafing through a phonebook or the Yellow Pages or any other printed directory for that matter. If you are still using these methods to search for a product, a service or business, you are definitely in the minority.

Most people these days are searching on their phone, or I-pad or similar device, or using a laptop or desktop computer. These tools have definitely changed the world. Most people have found that it is quick and easy to search for something online and find lots of relevant results.

This takes us to YOUR business. How do you think those businesses are getting found online that come up on the search engine when we do the searches? There are a number of answers to this question, but many of those companies have put a lot of time, effort and money into making sure they do come up in search engine results. Some of the companies may have registered to be in certain online directories and some of the companies have active blogs which help their company get found in searches. Other companies may be uploading videos on a regular basis, understanding that videos can really help businesses get found online.

While social media is a great way for a business to interact with their customers, did you know that having social media presence also increases the number of times you appear in online search results? Most SEO experts would agree that being active on social media does have the added benefit of increasing your visibility search engines results. How many times have you done a search, and noticed that one of the results near the top of the search was actually a tweet on twitter?

If you are not already involved in social media with your business, this would be a great time to start. You can do it yourself or hire outside help. You can get somebody from within your company who is already an avid social media user, or you can ask around and find out what some of your friends are doing in their businesses.

Face the fact. Social media is not going away. Facebook and Twitter are staying around for a while and so is social media in general. Social media is a tool being used by millions and millions of businesses across the world. Social media can help you communicate with your customers. “Why does my business need to be involved in social media? It is the way many people communicate now, and it is a valuable tool for business.
