What is SEO? That is on the mind of so many people I talk to. I know that because if I refer to SEO I notice a glazed look in their eye. I quickly spell it out and say ‘Search Engine Optimization’.

This is still a mystery to quite a few business people and entrepreneurs. SEO really is all about doing whatever you need to do to get found-on-line by the search engines. When I say search engines, I mostly mean Google. Google these days is the powerhouse.

When I refer to getting found on-line, that refers to your on-line presence. Do you have a website? Do you have a blog? Are you on social media? That can include Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and a whole lot of other great social media tools.

The answer of course is no. You would not be happy with Google.

So Google is constantly figuring out ways to check content to make sure it is well constructed, up to date and accurate. Google does not want to lose customers.

The mechanism behind the way Google achieves this goal is technical. This mechanism is made up of complicated algorithms which cause search engines to operate successfully and deliver effective results.

The most succinct way to explain how to be on top of your SEO is simply this: keep content fresh and accurate. Make it part of your schedule to add new blogs at regular times. Add articles to your website. Update testimonials. Add new videos. Make changes weekly to your website. These 5 words will lead you to success in search engine optimization.

Of course social media is all about the present. Constantly adding and staying up to the minute is the way social media works. If you only checked in with facebook once a month, you would be missing the point. Social Media is a way to stay up-to-day and constantly interact with people and your community. That is why it can be a great boon for business.
